Strategy for History , Part-2

Hello everyone, as previously told History in CAPF exam has a greater representation. In this section I will talk about the strategy for ' Medieval India'. Though less number of question are asked from this section but they are not very tough in nature and if you will be succeed in solving them then you will have a good edge.

Books for this section- I preferably recommend Old NCERT written by Satish Chandra. It is written in very simple language and covers almost every part of syllabus. But what is meant to read, I am gonna share that.

First of all make a roadmap of all the dynasties and their respective rulers as they are not much in numbers, so, it will not be much difficult. You can leave some non important rulers like Ruknuddin...

Then, the literature of this period is also important from the CAPF point of view. Make a list of that and have some information about two to three line of that and also differentiate them in terms of script, language, theme content and author. Like ' Tuzuk-i- babari' is written in ' Chaghtayi Turkish language' and it is an autobiography of the first Mughal ruler ' babar' and ' Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri' is written in ' Persian' language and it is an autobiography of Jahangir.

For Pre Medieval Era, the ' Tripartite Struggle' is very important, collect all the facts about it. After that the Rastrakuta architecture and Chola architecture is important. We can also see the peak of ' Dravidan Temple Style' in Chola architecture like ' The Brihadeshwar Temple' of Tanjaur in this period.

After that ' Bhakti and Sufi movement' has a great significance, collect all the facts about them and for ' Sufism, the Chishtiya, Nakshabandi, Suhrawardi and Kadari are the important ' Silsila'. Also coleect all the informations abot the ' Sikh Gurus'.

Some kings in Sultanat period and Mughals are very important from the point of view of UPSC-

Sultanat Kings-  Iltutmish ( Kutub Minar, Father of Tomb Style etc), Balban ( Theory of kingship and and Blood and Iron etc), Muhammad- Bin- Tughlaq, Feruz shah Tughlaq( in architecture and in agreeculture and administration and Jizya tax on Brahmins etc), Alaud- din-  Khalji ( Market Reforms etc).

Mughals- Babar, Akbar ( Religious views, land revenue system, Administration etc), Jahangir ( Patronage to Painting), Shahjahan ( architecture), Aurangzeb.

The land revenue system of Sher Shah Suri is also important.

Although you have to read medieval architecture according to the period of different kings but make some notes on the specification and properties of medieval arts and culture , like in architecture ' Pietra Dura technique', Tomb style, use of Dome and Minars and arabesque technique and origin of the new painting styles and schools in later mughal periods like, Bundi school, Kota Mewarh School, Pahadi School etc.

Make a flow chart of the administrative structure of Sultanat and Mughal period. You don't need to memorize all but try to remember some important posts, like Munseef, Kazi etc.

I have shared everything what I have been doing  during my preparation. I hope it will gonna help you. Suggestions are welcome.
